چکیده

We describe decomposition formulas for rotations of R 3 and R 4 that have special properties with respect to stereographic projection. We use the lower dimensional decomposition to analyze stereographic projections of great circles in S 2 R 3. This analysis provides a pattern for our analysis of stereographic projections of the Cliiord torus C S 3 R 4. We use the higher dimensional decomposition to prove a symmetry assertion for stereographic projections of C which we believe we are the rst to observe and which can be used to characterize the Cliiord torus among embedded minimal tori in S 3 |though this last assertion goes beyond the scope of this paper. An eeort is made to intuitively motivate all necessary concepts including rotation, stereographic projection, and symmetry.

Full control of qubit rotations in a voltage - biased superconducting flux qubit

We study a voltage-controlled version of the superconducting flux qubit [Chiorescu et al., Science 299, 1869 (2003)] and show that full control of qubit rotations on the entire Bloch sphere can be achieved. Circuit graph theory is used to study a setup where voltage sources are attached to the two superconducting islands formed between the three Josephson junctions in the flux qubit. Applying a...

Fitting Hyperbolic pants to a three-body problem. Abstract. Consider the three-body problem with an attractive 1/r 2 potential. Modulo symmetries, the dynamics of the bounded zero-angular momentum solutions is equivalent to a geodesic flow on the thrice-punctured sphere, or " pair of pants ". The sphere is the shape sphere. The punctures are the binary collisions. The metric generating the geod...

Three Dimensional Analysis of Flow Past a Solid-Sphere at Low Reynolds Numbers with the Aid of Body Fitted Coordinates

In this paper, the flow-field of an incompressible viscous flow past a solid-sphere at low Reynolds numbers (up to 270) is investigated numerically. In order to extend the capabilities of the finite volume method, the boundary (body) fitted coordinates (BFC) method is used. Transformation of the partial differential equations to algebraic relations is based on the finite-volume method with coll...

Open Sets Satisfying Systems of Congruences

A famous result of Hausdorff states that a sphere with countably many points removed can be partitioned into three pieces A, B, C such that A is congruent to B (i.e., there is an isometry of the sphere which sends A to B), B is congruent to C, and A is congruent to B ∪ C; this result was the precursor of the Banach-Tarski paradox. Later, R. Robinson characterized the systems of congruences like...

3d Object Symmetry Measurement Using Extended Gaussian Image

In this paper, we state a new way for measuring symmetry of three-dimensional graphic object. The idea is based on the representation of three-dimensional objects by their Extended Gaussian Image (EGI). The EGI is constructed by mapping each surface normal of any object to the Gaussian sphere. The Gaussian sphere is presented by icosahedrons and 60 rotations are applied. An experimental evaluat...
